Register with Ebay by
going to http://www.ebay.com
Create a Sellers
Account, you can do this by clicking “Sell”
on the top of a page.
Best to get a picture of
the item you are selling whether you scan
the picture or have a digital camera or
get the photo from the web, a picture is
ideal as people like to see what they are
buying.
Decide whether you want
to sell your item at a fixed price or at
auction
Pick a category, where
your item fits in the best IE electronics,
Housewares, games, collectibles, books,
etc…you may choose a second category as
well if you’d like.
Create an item title to
describe your item IE cd player with
headphones plus case etc…
You then need to give a
description of the item you are selling.
This can range from basic text to more
fancy HTML and even flash animation.
Decide how long you want
the auction to go for it can go a minimum
of 1 day or 3-5-7 days and it can even go
10 for an additional .10 cents. You can
also decide to start your auction at a
specific date and time and end on a
specific date on time.
Enter the quantity of
the item you are selling
Enter the STARTING PRICE
of where you want the auction to start at.
You can also enter a
RESERVE PRICE to allow yourself to
guarantee that your item won’t sell
below a certain price.
BUY IT NOW- you can
enter a BUY IT NOW price if you want
someone to be able to buy it immediately
for a price you set.
You also have the option
to hide the bidders User Id’s from being
displayed in case you are selling
something private.
You can then list the
item location or enter anything else in
the spot. I like to enter BUY IT NOW! J
Upload your picture or
type in a web address where your item
picture can be found.
You can now upgrade your
auction for a fee to make your auction
more visible to people and to make it
nicer IE bold , theme, gallery etc…
Add a counter if you
want to see how many people viewed your
auction.
Decide what payment
typed you will accept.
Decide how much you will
charge for shipping and where you are
willing to ship to.
The last thing you need
to do is to decide whether or not you will
accept escrow. I will explain later J)
And that’s IT!!! Those are
all the steps you need to follow in order to
sell anything on ebay. However, while that is
a basic auction listing, it’s the little
things that make a difference between an
auction and money making Ebay PowerSeller
auction, which is what you’ll understand
after you read to the bottom. I don’t want
to just show you how to list items for sale,
but show you the best way and when, where,
what and how to profit the most off ebay.
CHAPTER 2
“The
Advantages of Selling on Ebay”
One sentence basically sums
up Ebay…Over 50 MILLION people are on Ebay
and there are more and more every day!!! But
besides for that, as if that wasn't enough to
boggle the mind, you can find just about
ANYTHING you are looking for and can sell
anything…There will ALWAYS be someone to buy
whatever is it you have whether it’s an
apple or a zebra lol. Basically it’s like
setting up shop smack in middle of Times
Square in New York City. You are able to reach
over 50 million daily!!! So obviously Ebay is
a great place to sell anything.
Ebay has changed the world.
What started 10 years ago as a small website
has exploded into a huge online multi million
dollar marketplace. Ebay has enabled thousands
of people to stay at home and be their own
boss while making more money then they used to
at their old jobs. People rely on Ebay and use
it as a full time business. Ebay is a full
time job and only job for many. PowerSellers
like myself are sellers that maintain a
minimum of selling at least $1000 monthly.
MINIMUM!!! People are making thousands of
dollars a month on Ebay.
Nearly everyone knows of
Ebay and for those that don’t they will soon
enough. Ebay may seem intimidating at first to
some but it’s really user friendly once you
get to know how it works and the ins and outs
of it. You can just list your item and go to
sleep for the rest of the day and just check
it when the auction closes J I can’t tell
you how good a feeling it is to make money
while you sleep J All you do is list the item
and million of people see your item. It’s a
great feeling to see the price of your auction
rise, and an even better feeling cashing all
the checks. J
To be successful on Ebay all
you need is a computer with internet access,
motivation and an open mind. Ebay is really
simple and I have broken it down for you here.
I will delve into the basics as well as the
intricate complicated topics that I have
learned from experience. I am an Ebay
PowerSeller and have been living off Ebay for
over 3 years and have given my time energy
sweat and tears to use Ebay and to perfect it.
I will help you achieve what I have achieved
and turn you into a PowerSeller.
Part 1- Register with Ebay.
It’s simple! Just go to http://www.ebay.com
and fill in a few basic fields such as name
address and email and just like that you’re
registered! Don’t worry about other people
seeing your info. Ebay’s site is secure and
transmitted through a secure server so it’s
200% safe J
You now need to choose an
Ebay ID or a name, this is similar to choosing
an email ID, just don’t expect to be able to
choose the first name you think of, because
there are millions of people registered with
Ebay so always be prepared with a few extra
names just in case, but Hey! You might get
lucky so give your first one a shot J.
Ebay doesn't require you to
have a credit card however if you register
with an email address such as yahoo or hotmail
or any other anonymous email account then you
will need a credit card to verify who you are.
If you are using AOL or Earthlink for example
then you don’t need a credit card.
After you submit all the
information you will be sent a confirmation
code to your email address. Just click on the
link in the email and congratulation! You are
now registered with Ebay.
Part 2- You can now register
to SELL with ebay however you need to verify
your ID to do this. You can either get “ID VERIFIED”
for $5.00 which is an option once you register
to sell or you can place a credit card on file
with Ebay. Congratulations! You are now an
Ebay seller and can start selling anything
immediately!
CHAPTER 3
“creating
an About Me page”
An “About
Me” page is important to have as it can give
people more information about you and your
business. Most people on Ebay neglect this
important part but it can make a huge
difference. It lets people know what you’re
all about and what your business is all about.
You can also show them what else you have for
sale as well as showing them anything else you’d
like. Whether it’s just a greeting with a
picture or a page with links to other sites an
“About Me’ page solidifies your presence
on Ebay and it can attract even more
customers, and help keep the ones you already
have. After you create your “About Me”
page the word “me” will appear next to
your user ID. You can click on that “me”
and it will take you and anyone else who
clicks on it to your “About Me” page.
People will like to know who they’re buying
from and they will feel more comfortable
buying from you than from a total stranger
because being that your “About Me” page
introduced yourself they feel more at home
with you.
CHAPTER 4
“Attractive
Titles and Headlines”
A good title
and headline is extremely important. A good
title can get hundreds of more people to see
your auction then a bad title would get. For
example to see the difference between a great
title and a bad title selling the EXACT SAME
PRODUCT. One sold for $54.00 and one sold for
$69.00 try to guess which…one title was “cd
player nice looking and works great” and the
other title was “NEW Sony Cd Player Model #
XJ302” now which listing do you think sold
for more…obviously the second one sold for
more $ . The key to a good listing is to put
yourself in the buyers shoes. What would YOU
type in if you were looking for a specific
item? No one types in good looking for a cd
player, yet that seller chose to write “good
looking” in his title. You can always add
“good looking” in your auction. The title
is your chance to list the words that you
think the buyer will type in when he is
searching for your item you should include
major details such as item name, company name
(if applicable) model number if applicable.
If your
auction doesn't have a model number or a
company name for example you’re selling an
antique lamp. Then you should list keywords
that will get the buyers attention such as “hot,
lamp, antique, collectible, cool, gift, old,
furniture” etc… you get the idea. Great
Titles and can be the difference in becoming a
major successful ebay seller.
CHAPTER 5
“Making
Your Auction SHINE”
Well as I’ve
said before and I’m sure you know this
already, but many people can buy and sell on
ebay however there is a major difference. Some
people just list an item and make a few
dollars profit IF THAT! And some people can
make 10 times as much profit ON THE SAME
ITEM!!! How? Well that’s what I was
wondering when I first started selling on Ebay
but now 3 years later and hundreds of positive
feedbacks later I am now a PowerSeller and
will explain how to make your auction stand
out from everyone else's and make someone want
to buy YOUR item instead of someone else
listing the EXACT SAME THING!!!
OK first, it’s
important to have a lot of feedback and not
negatives lol I mean a lot of GOOD positive
feedback because most potential buyers look to
see what an Ebay members feedback rating is.
The internet is a scary place for some and
people are scared to just buy and spend money
on the internet so a good positive feedback
record will put their minds at ease. Second,
you MUST include a picture of your item if you
want to sell it for a higher price. People
like to see before they buy and just words and
no picture will turn away some people. Try to
make your auction as nice as possible using
HTML if possible. If you’re computer savvy
you can use other design programs or even use
the one Ebay offers. Nice and clean is always
best. Make the description clear and to the
point. Offer a money back guarantee to show
people you stand behind your product and to
help them not to worry. Use color and bold as
well as italics to spice up your listing. Make
it “eye pleasant” depending on your item
of course. If you’re selling a baby toy then
make your auction more childish, such as
lighter colors and some pictures of teddy
bears or pacifiers around you get the idea. If
it’s something like a business briefcase
then obviously tone it down and make it more
businesslike. No pacifiers lol.
CHAPTER 6
“Best
Things to Sell & Where to Find Them”
When I
started on Ebay I had dreams of riches and
thought well I’ll go to any store buy stuff
and then just sell it on Ebay for a profit and
I’ll be rich!!! Lol well that didn't happen
and I was bummed until I realized the best way
to do it. The three best things to sell on
ebay are Collectible items, Consumable items,
and Information! Sell ANYTHING you can get a
good deal on. Who cares if you make a million
selling buttons or bubbles or balloons or
baboons (well I’m not sure you can sell a
baboon on Ebay but you can try lol) what I
mean to say is if you find a good deal then
you can make money on Ebay. You can go to garage
sales, flea markets or wholesalers. Many Power Sellers
use this method to sell on Ebay. I’ve bought
pallets from wholesale companies. For a price
of a few hundred dollars a pallet you get a
huge shipment of your choice either Housewares
(that’s what I sold) electronics, clothing
etc. I have supplied you with a list of
wholesalers throughout the UNITED STATES!
Should you wish to pursue this method. Other
people make money on Ebay just by buying items
on Ebay for a low price because the seller didn't
list it properly or left out or misspelled a
word and then you can resell it for a higher
price. I do that too J. You can experiment and
find what you’re most comfortable with. Be
prepared to lay out some money to start with
so start small and work it up from there. Use
the List I emailed you to find wholesalers in
your area that way you will find the best
products and shipping will be minimal.
Chapter 7
“Payment
Methods (i.e. PayPal etc…)”
When your
auction is over generally the person who
bought your item wants it right away so they
want to pay you right away so that they can
get it…simple right? Well you need to
communicate with them to let them know that
they won, what they won and most importantly
where to send payment to. You will have
already stated which payments you accept
through your auction when you listed it so now
is the time to give them details. If they have
PayPal then that’s they way to go it’s the
easiest and quickest way to get paid. If
anyone needs to sign up they can do so by
going to http://www.paypal.com. I use
it and love it. Or you can just have them send
a check or money order to your home in which
case you will need to supply them with your
name and address. Ebay makes this simple by
letting you create a draft of a few lines
describing payment options and then ebay sends
that invoice to your buyer. It’s important
to contact your buyer because many times
buyers are not sure how to go about paying you
unless they hear from you. It also gives them
a sense of comfort when they hear from you.
Always include shipping fees as well. Nearly
75% of Ebay bidders use PayPal!!! Probably
because it’s the quickest way to pay someone
and the quickest way for them to receive their
item. You should also accept checks and money
orders. Don’t worry about checks, THEY WILL
CLEAR J and the more payment types you accept
the greater types of bidders you attract. Some
people only like paying by check.
Once you have
received payment email your buyer to let them
know you received their payment and let them
know when you will be shipping their item.
People like to know when they will be
receiving their item. Most importantly LEAVE
POSITIVE FEEDBACK if you want your own. Send
an email thanking your buyer after you ship
the item and remind them to leave feedback.
Not everyone will leave feedback so the more
you can get the better. It shows you’re a
trustworthy person and really good to deal
with.
Chapter 8
“what NOT
to do”
Do NOT make
spelling mistakes in you auction listing. It
looks unprofessional.
Do NOT start
your bidding price too high. Buyers will go
elsewhere and if you start it low it will most
probably sell for higher than someone who
starts his high because it has been shown that
people get “attached” to an item they are
bidding on so if someone bids on an item while
it is low he gets his/her heart set on that
item and will continue to bid for it once it
goes higher.
Do NOT Leave
negative feedback for other Ebay members no
matter what (unless they left you first)
because they WILL take revenge and ruin your
feedback.
Do NOT send
your item without proper padding. Many items
are very fragile and when the buyers is buying
your item in essence it is now his so
understand that the buyer wants to receive his
item in good condition and in a protected
fashion.
Do NOT
overcharge for shipping. Many sellers figure
to make more money on Ebay by gauging people
on the price of shipping I have 3 words for
you. DON’T DO IT!!! People will lose respect
for you and they will even give you negative
feedback for it…it happened to me back in my
stupid early ebay days lol.
Do NOT list
your auction for less than 7 days. You need to
give people a chance to view your auction. If
you only list it for a few days that
drastically limits the amount of potential
buyers.
Do NOT go
against any Ebay rules. They WILL bust you and
suspend your account. I’m embarrassed to say
but that too happened to me in my early stupid
ebay days but now I’m older and wiser and
work WITH ebay. You’d be surprised how human
they are. I mean real people actually respond
to your emails…anyways I’m going off
topic. J
And most
importantly DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
Chapter 9
“Shipping”
Shipping your
items doesn't need to be a hard experience.
Not only doesn't it have to be physically hard
and a pain, dragging all those boxes to the
post office and paying a fortune for supplies.
I will let you know how to sit at home and get
supplies for free!!!
First things first…If you
are going to be an Ebay PowerSeller and ship a
lot of items daily or weekly you MUST get a
small postage scale. They’ll run you about
$30.00 and then you can weigh the items
yourself and determine shipping costs yourself
by going to http://postcalc.usps.gov
If you are shipping
internationally, you can use this rate
calculator:
http://ircalc.usps.gov
UPS also offer a rate calculator on their
site at: http://www.ups.com and click
on “rates”.
Make sure you pack your
items with enough padding especially fragile
items or THEY WILL BREAK!!! There is no such
thing as too much padding or “packing popcorn". You
can use newspapers, Styrofoam as well. Offer
your customer to have the item insured and if
they decline then insure it yourself and if it’s
expensive then get a tracking number.
As far as supplies go the
United States Postal Service http://www.usps.com
offer shipping item for FREE!!! Yes I said
Free! And believe it or not you don’t even
have to pay them to ship it to you…there is
NO catch I don’t get it either lol. But hey
I’ll take it J
UPS also offers some items
free and offer reasonable rates http://www.ups.com
but my favorite is Airborne Express http://www.airborne.com
They have the best rates and will pick up the
items for you from your home!!! I love them
lol.
You can also get free boxes
by going to your local store or supermarket
they have so many uneeded boxes and will be
more than happy for you to take them.
http://www.simplypostage.com
and http://www.stamps.com are two great
sources for online postage.
Chapter 10
“Tricks,
Tips & Secrets”
Top 10 Words to use in your auction. These
words have been proven to be typed in the most
often by people on Ebay searching for anything
and they are…
1)New
2)Guaranteed
3)Easy/Simple
4)Testimonial
5)Free
6)Important
7)Limited
8)Fast
9)Discount
10)Sale
These words make the buyer
want to buy it RIGHT AWAY!!!
Best Time of the day you
should list your item is the time when most
people are at home at their computers like
in the evening when people are home from
work and settling down because most bids
pour in in the last hour of the auction so
you want people to be able to bid and not be
stuck at work.
This next important secret
is one most people on ebay don’t know…EBAY
HAS A HOT LIST!!! Click on this link and you
will see that ebay has a huge part of their
site dedicated to hot items!!! http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/whatshot.html
Use it to your advantage.
Always remember to treat
your customers like a King and work it out
with hard customers.
Use your “About Me”
page to your success and to let people see
more about what you have to sell.
Use the .99 cent trick.
People somehow feel that .99 is a huge
difference than 1.00 so they will be more on
that item.
Offer a 100% money back
guarantee. It will show your buyers that you
are honest and you will get a lot more bids.
Well that’s it I hope
you all benefit from my information.
Thanks for reading!!!
Sincerely,
Robert Ross
